Knowledge base Fallback options
One of the concerns people always have with any service like this is what happens if it breaks. We explain the underlying reliability of the service, but there are extra options we offer.
ADSL
Any customers with our Ethernet internet access service can have an ADSL line as an extra line at only £12.72 pcm. This can have the same IP addresses**.
The IP blocks on your line are routed via one of the IP addresses on a /29 for the Ethernet. We will constantly ARP for this address, and if it stops responding we will stop the routes for any other blocks via that address within out internal network giving the ADSL line priority for those addresses. This allows fall-back to ADSL within a few seconds.
When your router starts answering ARPs again (presumably the router, or fibre being fixed) routing will return to Ethernet.
Packets are accepted on up-link on broadband from your IPs at all times in this case, and our usual monitoring and text/email alerts apply to the broadband line so you know it is ready when you need it.
Dialup
In just the same way ADSL users can dial-up to get backup access, Ethernet customers can do the same.
L2TP
We may be launching an L2TP IP service soon, allowing backup using tunnels via any alternative internet access for the same IPs. Please let us know if this is of interest to you.
Initial service launch
**Initially when the service is first launched there are likely to be some restrictions on seamless IP address re-routing between Ethernet and broadband/dial-up. As such we will provide additional IPs for broadband/dial-up initially where customers want fallback arrangements.
